I feel like in this point in time it is not a matter of where the improvements should take place but rather, how far can the gender equality go as far as benefits for women.

Gender equality should not be seen as going as far as possible to benefit women. That does not sound like equality at all. Finding specific areas which may need improvement is important, as generally adding more benefits for women will eventually overflow and end up with a system that is not equal, but benefits women. Equal opportunity is necessary, not equal outcome.
